Deepawali Special ~ 28th October 2008

"Nutan Versha Abhi Nandan" - Good Wishes for the New Year

Once again we have the special offering to celebrate the Hindu Festival of Lights, when the streets and houses were lit with Divas (oil lamps) and the entrances to the homes were painted with decorative patterns called Sathiyas, welcoming Lord Ram to his kingdom of Ayodhiya after 14 years in exile. Great feasts and celebrations are held at this time. Presents and food parcels are exchanged amongst family, friends and neighbours.

The following day (29th.Oct), marks the beginning of a New Year 2064 as per the latest Hindu Calendar. The typical greeting one would use will be "Nutan Versha Abhi- Nandan"- Good Wishes for the New Year.

This year 14 lucky customers, will be accompanying Hansa and Kish to Gujarat, on our 'Lets' Celebrate Deepawali in Gujarat Tour', to be a part of these Celebrations, savouring the real atmosphere over there in India, complete with massive fireworks at every street corner. We wish them well.

It is a typical celebration meal we Hindus would serve at this time, containing Lapsi (sweet bulgar wheat), Aubergine and peas curry, Chickpeas and potato curry, Rice, Daal sauce, raita, Puris and Papad.
